Representing the largest single investment in the sciences at Boston College, the Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society (IISS) is a new academic building to house the school’s growing research and science programs.
This building provides space to The Computer Science Department, Edmund H. Shea Jr. Center for Entrepreneurship, and associated science and global public health programs. The IISS features labs, classrooms, a 188-seat auditorium, maker space, a café, and collaborative spaces to foster innovation and interdisciplinary research across departments.
Demolition was included in the project scope as the new building replaced the site of Cushing Hall. The Suffolk team worked closely with Payette and Boston College to prioritize the safety and wayfinding experience of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Our team demonstrated sensitivity to all campus and neighborhood activities as the project site is adjacent to existing buildings and located on an active campus within a residential neighborhood.
