Nitin Nohria is the George F. Baker Jr. and Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor. He served as the 10th Dean of Harvard Business School from 2010 to 2020, where he led a decade of innovation, intellectual ambition, internationalization, inclusion, and integration—transforming the MBA program, driving major interdisciplinary projects on topics like US Competitiveness and the Future of Work, launching HBS Online to expand the school’s reach, and deepening ties across Harvard through initiatives like the iLab—a university-wide center for entrepreneurship.
Deeply engaged in the business world, Nohria is Chairman of Thrive Capital and Exor N.V. and serves on the boards of ABI, Alsym, Bridgespan, Mass General Brigham, and Rakuten Medical. In India, he is an advisor to the Piramal Group and Tata Sons (where he previously served on the board).
A leading scholar of leadership and organizational behavior, Nohria’s research has profoundly influenced the understanding of CEO effectiveness and corporate performance. A prolific author, he has co-authored or co-edited 16 books and over 100 articles and cases. He has received numerous honors, including the C.K. Prahalad Scholar-Practitioner Award, the Academy of Management’s George R. Terry Award, the distinguished alumnus award from IIT Bombay, and the Padma Shri from the Government of India.
Born in Mumbai, he earned a Bachelor of Technology from IIT Bombay and a Ph.D. in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management before joining the HBS faculty in 1988. His lifelong mission is to shape the next generation of leaders and the evolving role of business in society.
