What is the most exciting thing about working in this business? What is your professional passion?
For me, the most exciting thing about working in this business is the ability to help others. Being able to apply my 35 years of construction industry experience—the good, the bad, mistakes made, lessons learned—toward helping others with problem solving, mentoring and career development is truly rewarding. My years of experience have afforded me a practical perspective that I apply toward safety. Helping to send people home safely at the end of each day is something I am truly passionate about.
What do you love to do when you aren’t at work? What is your personal passion and why?
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, including my two granddaughters; hiking; cycling; and traveling. I’m a lifelong cyclist and thoroughly enjoy any opportunity to get out on my bicycle to get some exercise and clear my head.
What sport did you play and how did it help you professionally?
I played football for many years and the skills and lessons that I took from that sport have been invaluable to my professional career. Teamwork, practice, the willingness to be coached, “playing through pain,” and never giving up are just a few of the life lessons that I’ve taken from that sport.
What is your favorite quote?
“Trust but verify.” Ronald Reagan
Who was your mentor/biggest influence and what did they teach you?
My father is my biggest influence. Through example, he taught me about hard work, discipline, sacrifice, faith, and the need to put family first. He was a tough dad growing up, but as I look back, I can understand why he was so demanding. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without his tough love and guidance.
