The new four-story Barbey Patient Care Tower will be approximately 141,148 square feet and will include radiation oncology and medical oncology services; cardiovascular medical surgery services; a pharmacy; and associated public amenities.
In order to relocate the existing radiation oncology and cancer services, Suffolk will build the new facility in phases, ensuring the hospital’s ability to occupy the first two floors of the new structure, prior to completion of the upper floors.
Following the construction of the new structure and relocation of the radiation oncology and cancer services, Suffolk will demolish the existing radiation oncology facility to make way for a new 20,000 square-foot structure. The upper floors will house medical oncology and surgery.
In the final phase of the project, approximately 10,000 square feet of vacated space will be renovated for the relocation of the OB/GYN department.
Suffolk Design, Suffolk’s in-house design management team performed a feasibility study and BoD preparation to reconcile project scope and cost overruns and an envelope analysis to balance cost with energy performance requirements. Suffolk Design also performed structural analysis to maximize bay size while minimizing complexity and tonnage and a site analysis to minimize earthwork and flood plane impact, while maximizing parking capacity and traffic safety and efficiency.
