Suffolk completed this design-build, 100,000 square-foot Physical Fitness Center at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
The building uses solar panels to provide power to the facility. It also includes a juice bar, an indoor swimming pool, indoor running track, a 36-foot rock-climbing wall, gym and spectator seating, racquetball courts, an exercise room, a cardiovascular training area, two indoor basketball courts, massage rooms, a weight training area, cycling room and office space. The facility serves as a destructive weather shelter for extreme wind events. This building is FEMA 361-rated and can withstand up to 170 mph gusts and 80 mph debris impact. The project is LEED Platinum certified.
