Working with design partner AECOM, Suffolk consolidated port operation activities into one central building and improved operations at this strategic naval installation.
This project for the United States Department of the Navy consisted of the design and construction of a 13,500-square-foot maintenance facility that provides administrative space, classrooms, sleeping accommodations, maintenance bays, and a painting booth for small watercraft.
Project challenges included unforeseen site conditions, changes to the original façade design, and an intense coordination process with Navy security regarding telecommunication and data system requirements. Regardless, Suffolk’s user-friendly and collaborative approach created limited impact to the schedule and budget while meeting the strict Navy standards.
Suffolk previously managed the renovation and expansion of the base’s ambulatory care center and provided construction management services for 100 replacement housing units at Polaris Park, also located on this naval base.
