Overcoming challenging site constraints

Northeastern University Interdisciplinary Science & Engineering Complex

This 230,000-square-foot facility faced challenging site constraints being adjacent to MBTA railroad tracks and an active parking structure. Along with this, consideration for future construction added to the complexity of spacing. The building is six stories with basement level wet and dry labs, computational research spaces, and collaboration areas throughout. Additionally, the complex provides offices to house Northeastern’s rapidly growing faculty.

Connecting researchers

Northeastern University Interdisciplinary Science & Engineering Complex

To facilitate connections among researchers, a magnificent atrium includes a corkscrew stair that we installed by lowering it as one piece through the roof. Today, both faculty and students fill the building, utilizing the included classrooms, study areas and cafés.
