An iconic building on the Charles River Campus
Boston University Center for Computing & Data Sciences
This new 19-story, 350,000 square foot building was designed by Canadian architecture firm KPMB and set above a podium to mitigate its impact on the busy street and align with other buildings along Commonwealth Avenue. The tower organizes a series of floorplates that are shifted and cantilevered around a central core to break down the overall scale of the building. This unique landmark now serves as its own “vertical campus” providing Boston University’s rapidly expanding mathematics and computational sciences programs with classrooms, labs, and amenity spaces for independent and collaborative study, research and socialization.
Creative solutions on an urban site
Boston University Center for Computing & Data Sciences
Opened in 2022, Suffolk implemented creative solutions for constructing the complex building on such a tight site with no lay-down area. Experience with similar projects in an urban setting were key to the client’s selection of the Suffolk team. Ultimately, this iconic and dynamic building not only serves to attract the best and brightest data sciences students from around the world, but has transformed the BU skyline, particularly when viewed from across the Charles River.
