Ensuring uninterrupted hospital operations

Cape Cod Hospital Barbey Patient Care Tower

Suffolk relocated the existing radiation oncology and cancer services at Cape Cod Hospital through a phased construction approach that allowed the hospital to occupy the first two floors of the new facility before the upper levels were completed. Once the new structure was operational, the existing radiation oncology building was demolished to make room for a new 20,000-square-foot facility, with upper floors designated for medical oncology and surgery. In the project’s final phase, roughly 10,000 square feet of vacated space were renovated for the relocation of the OB/GYN department.

Comprehensive design analysis to support project efficiency

Suffolk Design, Suffolk's in-house design management team, conducted a full feasibility study and basis-of-design preparation to address scope and cost challenges. The team also completed an envelope analysis to balance energy performance with budget, a structural analysis to maximize bay sizes while reducing complexity and steel tonnage, and a site analysis that minimized earthwork and floodplain impacts while improving parking capacity, traffic flow, and overall safety.
